The University of Bridgeport, located in Connecticut, was established in 1913 and the Fones School of Dental Hygiene was founded in 1949.  U of B received accreditation, New England Association of Schools and Colleges, Commission on Institutions of Higher Education, in 1953. You can attend their dental hygiene degree completion program online to achieve your bachelors of science degree while you work, take care of your family and tend to life!

With 60-90 transferable credits from previous academic experience, you may be able to complete the BS in Dental Hygiene program in TWO years. You will need 40 credit hours in general education courses, 22 credit hours in dental hygiene courses, and 9 credit hours in elective courses.

SAINT PETERSBURG COLLEGE

Founded in 1927, St. Petersburg College, or SPC, is a state college located in Pinellas County, Florida and is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.  Enrolling about 65,000 students annually as a whole, SPC offers an online Bachelor’s of Applied Science degree in Dental Hygiene. Their dental program is one of the largest degree completion program in the nation and is the first and only bachelor’s degree program in dental hygiene in Florida.

The online program is designed to help working, licensed dental hygienists, whom already have obtained their associate’s degree, boost their careers in sales, education and management. In addition, the features of this program consists of no campus visits or residency requirements, very interactive classes, two year possible completion, and a capstone course that lasts 14 weeks.

(Those residing in Alabama, Arkansas, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Nevada, and North Caroline can no longer be enrolled at SPC, due to state authorization requirements for online learning.)

Tuition for Florida Residents is $4668 or $116.70 per credit hour and Out of State Residents’ tuition is $16,791.60 or $419.79 per credit hour.  Books and supplies total $800. Online course fee per credit hour $15.00 or $600 total.

WESTERN KENTUCKY UNIVERSITY

Western Kentucky University is located in Bowling Green and founded in 1906, while the dental health program was established in 1970.  Total enrollment at WKU is approximately 21,000 students. The program is fully accredited by the Council of Dental Education/Commission on Dental Accreditation of the American Dental Association and the school as a whole is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, Commission on Colleges.

Their Bachelor of Science Completion Program in Dental Hygiene offers the latest in dental hygiene technology standards to its students to stay abreast of the ever-changing complexity of total oral health care. This completion program requires that you already have an associate’s degree in dental hygiene. 100 percent of the coursework can be completed online. But, keep in mind that consideration for being admitted in the baccalaureate degree completion program at WKU means that you must have graduated or be a future graduate in a dental hygiene program accredited through the American Dental Association’s Commission on Dental Accreditation.

Tuition for distance learners, undergraduates, is $463 per part-time credit hour and acceptance is limited to 28 students per year.  Once a student is accepted in the dental hygiene program, students must maintain a “C” average in each course and obtain an overall 2.0 grade point average or better to successfully complete the program.

The schools’ Department of Dental Hygiene baccalaureate degree program provides an outstanding curriculum dedicated in educating those whom are currently in the dental health profession, the tools they need to expand their skills in this ever changing field. The University of New Mexico’s Bachelor of Science Degree Completion Program allows professionals with a certificate of an Associate’s Degree in Dental Hygiene can be completed on a full or part-time basis completely online. In order to achieve your bachelor’s degree in dental hygiene you must complete 128 semester hours total with core curriculum courses required. Licensed dental hygienists will highly benefit from the Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene degree completion program offered by Eastern Washington University. By expanding your role as a dental hygienist, you are “starting something big” which is the university’s motto.

EWU requires a minimum of 61 upper-division credits beyond your associate’s degree achieved through an accredited, two year community college. A minimum of 45 of these credits must be earned from Eastern Washington University. You may complete the program in two years on a part-time basis and is designed to be completed in 7 quarters, with no more than 10 credits per quarter, including a summer quarter.

Tuition is estimated, starting Fall of 2014, to be at $251.00 per credit and the school’s website boasts that they are “one of the least expensive degree completion programs in the United States”. The university also charge a per credit online delivery fee of $25.

OREGON INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY

Oregon Institute of Technology

Oregon Institute of Technology’s online degree completion program offers licensed dental hygienists the opportunity to expand their knowledge via public health, management and education courses by obtaining their Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene degree. They will work with you to develop a plan of action suited to your needs in order to help you complete the program’s requirements and graduate.

Unfortunately, residents of Arkansas and Minnesota are not eligible for this program but the website claims that this may not be an issue in the future and to contact them if you have any questions regarding this matter.

One of the best aspects of Oregon Tech is that they do not charge an out-of-state surcharge for non-Oregon residents and offer affordable rates to their students. Tuition is only $214 per credit hour with a $60 online delivery fee of $60 per course. The $60 per course fee is for their online delivery system, Blackboard, their online software and also supports the technical staff and equipment required to offer distance learning to their students.
