Really the advantages or disadvantages of online school lie within the individual. One may see something regarding taking their online courses as a disadvantage that may be seen as an advantage to somebody else’s unique situation.
The main advantage to taking them online is the ability to take the classes whenever your time allows….flexibility and convenience. Other advantages are, depending on where you live, may include cutting down on alot of expenses, such as gas, meals eaten outside of the home, clothing, etc. as, of course, staying at home will eliminate the need for a possible new wardrobe.
Disadvantages may include choosing an online option that isn’t accredited and finding that out after the fact that classes taken may not transfer, not being disciplined enough to get your work done, or maybe you need to be taught directly and have the ability to have your questions answered immediately by a teacher in a classroom.
Another disadvantage could be that you are also missing out on the network of students that you would normally meet in a traditional school setting. Ones that may be able to help you in the future for say, getting a job, or meeting important contacts. On the other hand, if you are a shy student, taking classes in the privacy of your own home is a huge advantage. So many people are terrified to ask teachers questions in a public forum and feel much more comfortable with this format.
